Its like a parallel universe
The country becoming more averse
against everything government
For crash caused by corporate excess

Weak messaging by current leaders
Allowed the government to bear the brunt
Letting the economic crash be framed a subprime problem - the poor and needy
Not the house flipping and speculation by the greedy

Not the unregulated 40 fold leverage on properties
Nor the complicated instruments and derivatives
Not the permanently lowered interest rates
The wars and to the wealthy the tax breaks

Polls now show many
would much rather trust
Big corp and even big insurance
Over government and regulation

Now as we move on
From the big crash of 08
A country of people steered by the big Fox
Preventive regulations will not support

For it gives government more power
Government we hate, government we distrust
Government we select, government we fire
Though CEOs for profit we do not

A people with the greatest democracy does not in it trust
Government for the people, by the people
The arbiter among citizens
And companies whose interest is their balance sheet

A people wield the constitution now in word
But cheer its racially motivated violation
in advocating return of voting literacy tests
To stop the 63 million voters of the last election

How did our problem suddenly become big government
Puppet pushed by those pursuing its very control
Skillful dog whistle messaging that appeals to our worst
This new tea bagging thing a trojan horse

Non-aligned but voting only one party's candidates
Too angry and unable to contemplate
This the only way Americans would have been conned
To return power so quickly to the repudiated folks of 08
